What Reiki Taught Me About Healing
Discovering Reiki: A Path I Didn’t Expect
My journey with Reiki began in a way I never could have predicted. I was experiencing psychic phenomena and, in search of answers, found myself at a local metaphysical store. The space was alive with energy—amazing psychics were teaching, and I dove into their intuitive development courses. Throughout this process, several women gently nudged me, “LaGina, you are a healer. You should take the Reiki class.” Honestly, I ignored them for months. Healing? Me? Eventually, curiosity (and maybe a bit of fate) led me to sign up.
Opening to the Unknown
Before that first class, I had no expectations about healing, no idea what Reiki even was. The idea that I could heal myself, energetically or spiritually, was completely new. I was a blank slate.
Yet, within the first hour of my Level One Reiki class, something clicked. I felt the energy immediately, resonating at a soul level. Suddenly, I understood what the psychics had seen in me. It was as if a door opened, and I stepped into a room I’d always belonged in but never knew existed.
Transformation from the Inside Out
Reiki changed me—body, mind, and spirit. I became more confident in my physical body and no longer minded being “seen.” My mind grew calmer and more balanced; I found I was less emotionally triggered and could make decisions with clarity. Spiritually, I realized I am so much more than this physical form. I am a spiritual being, and with that awareness comes both the ability and the responsibility to shape my own life experiences.
Lessons in Non-Attachment
Like any journey, mine had its bumps. Early on, I offered Reiki professionally and had a session where I didn’t “feel” anything—a first for me, as I’m usually very attuned to the flow of energy. I worried I’d failed. But after the session, the client told me it was the best she’d ever experienced. That moment taught me a powerful lesson: my experience as the practitioner is less important than the client’s. Non-attachment and setting aside my ego are essential; true healing happens when I become a clear channel for energy.
Subtle Shifts, Profound Changes
The most profound lesson Reiki has given me is that I have more control over my life than I ever realized. There are spiritual practices that can guide us toward what is best for us, and Reiki is one of them. The changes it brings are often subtle—stress melts away, clarity emerges, sleep improves—but over time, these shifts are truly life-transforming.
For my students and clients, Reiki becomes a catalyst. Once you sit still with this powerful energy, your life starts to change in positive ways. Sometimes, the reason people seek healing isn’t the real issue at all. I once worked with a client struggling with a relationship. Through Reiki, she discovered her challenge was really about self-worth. After just a few sessions, her life reset in ways she hadn’t anticipated. The original problem faded, replaced by deeper self-understanding.
Empowering Others
One common misconception I see is the idea that the practitioner holds all the answers. Clients often want to know what I “see” during a session. While energetic impressions are real, I believe the client’s experience is most important. With a few questions or prompts, people uncover their own insights and healing. That’s far more empowering than simply being told what to think or feel.
As a practitioner, I see myself as a channel for healing energy. That’s the heart of Reiki: not fixing, but facilitating, holding space for transformation.
Living Reiki Every Day
Today, Reiki is woven into every aspect of my life and business. It’s not just something I do—it’s who I am. I continue to practice self-healing and meditation, staying aware of my thoughts and practicing non-judgment. This journey is ongoing, and I remain a student, always learning and realigning with my highest intentions.
For the Curious
If you’re curious about Reiki but unsure where to start, know this: Reiki Level I is all about self-healing. With a little practice, you’ll experience profound changes—stress relief, clarity, better sleep, and so much more. The journey is yours, and it’s worth every step.
Staying Authentic
My life has changed in countless ways since I began this path. I’ve shifted routines, work, and friendships, letting go of what no longer aligns with my truest self. The healing journey is about authenticity—about matching your actions to who you are becoming. I feel blessed and honored to witness others’ transformations and to continue my own.
Reiki taught me that healing is not about fixing what’s broken but about remembering who we truly are. And that, I believe, is the most profound healing of all.
